Does livestock farming contributes to human protein supply?

Not all proteins eaten by animals, are directly consumable by men. In the discussion about sustainability of animal production it is very important to take this into account.

Therefore BFA has given the task to research this. Boerenbond and ABS also participate in this study. In the project, the net contribution of the Belgian livestock farming to the protein supply for men is being evaluated.

The edible net proteinefficiency will be determined for pigs (animalcategory fatteners), for poultry (animalcategory laying hens and broilers) and for cattle (animalcategory dairy cattle and beef cattle). The results are to be expected at the end of 2019.
